The Route
My route is simple enough. I will ride across europe and asia to Beijing. Then head south to austrailia and cycle across the country. Before flying to prudhoe bay, then i will cycle across canada. Fly back to UK and cycle across Ireland and england.
Obstacles along the way
The Karakoram highway - is the highest paved international road in the world. It connects China and Pakistan across the Karakoram mountain range, through the Khunjerab Pass, at an altitude of 4,877 metres (16,002 feet). It connects China's Xinjiang region with Pakistans capital Islamabad. Heavy snow during harsh winters can shut the highway down for extended periods. Heavy monsoon rains, around July and August, cause occasional landslides that can block the road for hours or more. The border crossing between China and Pakistan at Khunjerab Pass is open only between May 1 and October 15 of every year.
The Takla Makan Desert -Takla Makan Desert is China's largest desert, situated in the middle of the largest Basin, Tarim in Xinjiang Province. This is reputed to be the world's second largest shifting-sand desert covering an area of over 33, 700 square kilometers (over 13 square miles). In summer the tempertaures cen reach in excess of 40 degrees. In the nights it can reach temperatures as low as 10 degrees
An Alaskan Winter - For cycling Alaska doesn't seem so bad. There's barely any wind in winter, snow and rain fall are at there lowest. The problem is the sub zero temperature ensures that all the snow that does fall stays until spring. Creating very icy roads, and with very short days, sometimes only 3 hours it provides almost impossible cycling conditions.
